Individual counselling offers a chance for you to explore, understand and take appropriate action on any issue that is concerning you. Counselling allows you to form a therapeutic relationship with me, which in turn allows you to discuss your concerns in a non-judgemental environment. Most counselling includes talking, but may also involve tasks to undertake at home.
Couple counselling is appropriate for couples who wish to explore their relationship at any stage – developing a commitment; working on an on-going partnership; recovery from a specific problem, such as an affair, and managing the end of a relationship. Couple counselling enables new ways of communicating, understanding and resolving difficulties.
Psychosexual Therapy is a specialist form of therapy for individuals and couples experiencing sexual problems. Loss of interest in sex, problems with achieving an erection or orgasm and painful sex can all be helped by psychosexual therapy. Therapy can also assist if medication has been prescribed for a sexual problem. Discussing the sexual issues, and undertaking tasks at home, can allow individuals and couples to develop strategies to improve intimate partnerships.
On-line and Telephone Therapy
If you live a busy lifestyle or find it difficult to leave the house, therapy on line, either via email or Skype, could be the answer. You should bear in mind that you will need to monitor your confidentiality so that others cannot read or hear your sessions.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
EMDR is a specialist treatment for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, advocated by the NHS as the treatment of choice for this disorder. It uses a specific course of treatment to diminish the common effects of trauma, which are problems with sleeping, sensory flashbacks and difficulties in relating to others, especially family and friends.
‘Understanding Your Eating’ Therapy
‘Understanding your Eating’ is a well researched programme of counselling that offers help in dealing with mild to moderate eating difficulties. It is not a diet programme, although those who take part in it can lose weight. Instead, it offers insight into the eating patterns and associated problems you may have encountered.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a method of counselling that focuses on particular areas of behaviour and thought that might be challenged or encouraged in order to improve life experience. It is useful for anxiety and stress, and can help with mild to moderate phobia problems.
Mindfulness is a non-religious meditative programme that can help with anxiety, depression and stress. Sessions offer a chance to learn and then use the skill of Mindfulness at home to alleviate emotional and mental health problems. Mindfulness has a well researched background and is used widely in mental and emotional health clinics, including the NHS.
